About Climate Vine

Climate Vine is an interdisciplinary community that unlocks ideas, talent and capital for experts in the space. We're looking for a Community Lead to join our team.

We launched this past February, and we ended up with 181 folks (at a 17% acceptance rate, given the number of applicants in the pool) in our inaugural cohort. Participants average 15 years of work experience; note that this may be skewed a bit low as the cohort includes 20-30 younger climate activists. Over 58% of the cohort is US-based. Otherwise, Members come from 53 countries around the world, including many nations in the global south. This year, we will run one additional cohort, and in 2023, we plan to run quarterly, themed cohorts of ~150 people.

Role Overview

As the Community Lead, you will get to know and support hundreds of interdisciplinary experts in the space, helping them to build deep relationships with each other and collaborate for climate action. ****You will be at the center of everything we do to support our Members. You will have both community-facing and data/operational responsibilities, including planning and executing virtual and in-person events, engaging with and making curated introductions between community Members, and working within our no-code infrastructure to support the business.

Responsibilities

Community facing

  • Strategize and execute rapid experimentation of community programming to test, learn and iterate quickly.
  • Plan and execute virtual events to engage and grow the community. We host ~5 live events per week: you’ll help to scope these events to ensure maximum impact and execute a portion of them in a way that looks seamless but really required a lot of thoughtful preparation to appear that way 😉
  • Own most Member comms and email communication.
  • Design and host in-person retreats, generally 1x/quarter.
  • Manage and engage with community members in Circle, respond to inquiries and feedback, and help create a positive and inclusive community vibe.
  • Make curated introductions between community members to help facilitate meaningful connections and networking opportunities.
  • Be an advocate and strategic partner for our Members’ overall experience.
  • Spearhead our content curation and organization. This may involve content and media tasks.
  • Design and execute a thoughtful and personalized community onboarding experience.

Data and operations

  • Understand our no-code infrastructure well enough to execute operational tasks.
  • Create, monitor and analyze community engagement metrics to identify opportunities for growth and improvement. Propose and execute solutions based on your findings.
  • Coordinate with outside speakers, partners and organizations as needed.
  • You may own parts of the candidate admissions process from a community and operations perspective. Ensure that candidates go through the admissions process in a way that lives up to our ethos of supporting Members, even the ones who aren’t the perfect fit for our community.

Prior Experience

  • Demonstrated interest and/or expertise in climate
  • At least one year of relevant work experience. You will be expected to share during the interview process how you think about, have built, and have engaged with communities in the past. *Given we will likely be hiring for multiple roles in the coming months, we are open to considering more junior, hungry folks as well as more seasoned folks who can take on higher levels of leadership with time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with community members in a positive and inclusive manner.
  • Familiarity with (or willingness to learn) no-code tools such as Make/Zapier, Airtable, Notion, Circle and more.

Working Style

  • Enjoys a high degree of intensity in your work and takes pride in delivering an amazing experience for Members.
  • Very strong async skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, startup environment. You’ll be expected to have an opinion on how best to accomplish something, agree with the founder on the approach, and then get it done efficiently and accurately.
  • Attention to detail is critical for success in this role: as a team, we commit to things and execute them thoughtfully. And then we do retros to assess how we can improve for next time, documenting as we go.
  • Skilled at juggling many different projects at one time. You’re thoughtful about clarifying prioritization, executing, and then moving down the list. You’ll balance these projects alongside daily community engagement needs.
  • Excited to create most things from scratch, experiment with new ideas, and enjoy that, as an early full-time employee on the team, no two days will look the same.

We welcome and encourage applications from those who identify as women or LGBTQ+ as well as those from historically under-represented groups in tech and climate generally. Climate Vine is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we believe that a variety of perspectives and experiences enrich our team and drive our success.

Additional Details

This is a full-time position, open to contracts or contract to hire. This person would start by reporting directly to the CEO/Founder.

We have a strong preference for candidates willing to work mostly in the eastern time zone. There will also be some travel expected in this role for both team offsites and community-facing events: generally ~1x/quarter.

The core community we’re building is cohort-based, so our team will naturally have periods of active fellow engagement followed by time preparing for the next cohort. Employees are expected to take off at least a few days off in between each cohort to be fully rested before the next sprint begins.
